I Wanna Hold Your Hand

September 29, 2009

Aria doesn't like her car seat. She feels it is inhuman that I force her to sit in it so often. The Boss loves her sister and wants her to be happy so she holds her hand in the car. All the time. It's too cute.

In this picture Aria is screaming bloody murder, the Boss is watching Kung Fu Panda and is not even bothered by the screaming but is holding Aria's hand because that's what a big sister does.

When people ask me how the Boss is adjusting to her new sister and if she likes her at all, I can say that she definitely likes her new sister.

Shhhhhh

September 29, 2009

For breakfast this morning The Boss had waffles with syrup. Lots of syrup. Syrup is sweet and sticky and so much fun to play with that it, somehow, ends up in her hair and all over her hands and arms with little bits of breakfast sticking to her.

So, after this mornings breakfast I just put her in the tub to get her and her hair clean again. I dried her off, dressed her and then went to change Aria's diaper. I guess she decided that she didn't get enough bath time because when I went to look for her I found her hiding behind the shower curtain.

She's really bad at hide and seek because as soon as I walked into the bathroom I hear, "Shhhhhh!" Which, while she could have been telling herself to be quite so I wouldn't find her, was really her telling me that she didn't want to do what I wanted her to do. She was preemptively telling me "No, mother, I will not be getting out of this bath tub any time soon, so just deal with it!" And, yes, the tub is still wet from the bath she took, literally 5 minutes before. And, no, I didn't change her into dry clothes when she finally got out.

Shushing me:
This is her new thing. When I tell her to do something she doesn't want to do, which includes everything except for watching Curious George and eating, she shushes me. Heaven help me.

Ack, 34!

Scott and Ryan emailed me this picture with their birthday wishes...

Can you guess which baby this is? It definitely brought a big smile to my face.

Bed Head Day

Today is bed head day at school. Not to be confused with crazy hair day, which is what I did this morning and was corrected immediately.

Favorite line of the morning.

Drama had asked me to hair spray the "funkyness" of her hair. I did because a girl needs a little funkyness every once in a while. I overheard the following conversation on their way down the stairs:

PB: "We should go rub our heads in the couch!"
D: "No way! I don't want to mess up my hair!"

Pooh Bear, thinking she was brilliant no doubt, proceeded to count to 100 while rubbing her head in the couch. You go girl.

Seriously Glad I Used the Big Bib

Mmmm, pudding. How much do you think actually got into her mouth?

She has also learned to say "cheese," which is what she is doing here.

The "Cute Girl Discount"

Yesterday, Drama and Pooh Bear requested monetary funds to take to school. They wanted to buy one of the little cheapy trinkets that "they" sell at lunch time. (I think the "they" is the PTA but I'm not sure.) So we negotiated and they both got 50 cents to take and buy whatever.

When the girls get home from school today they tell me all about what they bought at lunch. Pooh Bear shows me her newly acquired eraser cell phone. The following conversation takes place...

Me: "That's a pretty neat eraser."
PB: "I know. It cost a dollar!"
Me (oh, great.): "A dollar? But you only had 50 cents."
PB: "Yea. I got the cute girl discount."
Me (concern coloring my words): "The cute girl discount? What is that?"
PB (very matter of factly): "The girl told me the eraser was a dollar. I said I only had 50 cents and she said that I could have a cute girl discount and buy the eraser for 50 cents."

What the..? How come I never get a cute girl discount?

Homework Woes

Drama is learning about money in math at school. I will be the first to admit that money math can be confussing. "So you say that I only have $300 in my bank account but I spent $420 on shoes? What you can't do that?"

Anyway, I was checking Drama's math homework tonight and this is what I found...

Click this picture to make it larger. Also, spelling, not our strong suit.

As I read the question back to her with her answer Mark says, "Well, she's right!" And I guess she could be if the question hadn't asked what bills and coins you could use...

She was excited that I was posting this. Only Drama would be happy with the spotlight any way it comes!

Doctor Visit, 2 Months

September 18, 2009

Aria had her 2 month well baby check up today. She's fabulous, as you could probably guess. Right on her developmental milestones. She:
  • Smiles and Coos
  • Lifts and turns her head when she's on her stomach
  • Grasps at things
  • Turns when she hears a voice
Stats:
Age: 2 Months
Length: 23 inches, 75th percentile
Weight: 13 lbs 10 oz, 97th percentile (that's my girl)
Head Circ. 37.7 cm, 25th percentile

She received a set of vaccinations today. Five vaccines in three shots and an oral something or other.

Exhibit A, proof of weight:

If the nurse had rounded up on the ounces, she would have totally gotten an A+ (98%) in the weight department!

My Days...

Hilary Weeks came and spoke at a Stake Women's Conference a couple of years back. I saw this posted on You Tube and I had a good laugh and then I cried a bit ;) but I though you might enjoy....

Of course my days are a little different, they don't include the exercise and we have Lucky Charms for breakfast.

Fun and High Jinks

September 5, 2009

Grandpa Van Horn playing with the "kids" while we were at my parent's house last weekend. Teaching Drama the flip...
And dad showing her how it is really done... E-man observing....

The Boss loving Max...

We had such a great time over the weekend. It was beautiful, sunny, good food and so nice to spend time with everyone. Mom had a great game, "I remember when..." If you ever need a good party game give me a call and I will tell you all about it.

Are You Getting This?

September 4, 2009

I love the DVD player in our car. It is the only way to get from point A to point B and all the other points in between without too much protest from the smalls.

Here's the thing, my kids are weird. Pooh Bear got a digital camera for Christmas and it takes videos. And what do you think the girls take video of? Movies, TV shows, computer screens. Then they watch it on the little tiny camera screen later at their leisure.

I took this picture on our way up to Idaho Falls last weekend. Drama is filming the fold down screen on the roof of the car. The best part was Pooh Bear saying to Drama, "Are you getting this!?" Are you GETTING this!?

ahhh. Technology. You have to love it, or at least love the people who love the technology.    :)

Who Loves You Baby?

Dear Broccoli,

I heart you.

Love, The Boss

Last night we had Fettuccine Alfredo for dinner, the Boss' all time fave. I cooked up a little broccoli as a side because it made me feel like a good mom (6 tablespoons of butter and 2 cups of heavy cream, yea I'm a good mom). This little, quirky, rascal ate all the broccoli. And when I say all of it I mean she ate all of what I had given her, everything left on the girl's plates that they hadn't eaten (which was most of it), the rest of mine, the rest of Mark's (oh, wait he didn't take any) and THEN she took the serving bowl and ate straight from it until it was all gone. Aren't kids supposed to love sugar and eat IT by the serving bowl full? All of my kids have liked veggies but this takes the cake ... or should I say broccoli!

This photo was taken on August 29, 2009, I didn't take one last night because I was still in shock over the broccoli binge and this one was in my stash and looked very mischievous.

What's Your Accessory Philosophy?

September 2, 2009

"I don't understand how a woman can leave the house without fixing herself up a little - if only out of politeness. And then, you never know, maybe that's the day she has a date with destiny. And it's best to be as pretty as possible for destiny." - Coco Chanel

Destiny, here I come!

The meeting must not have gone very well...

These are a Few of My Favorite Things..

September 2, 2009

...when the dog bites, when the bee stings, when I'm feeling sad....

1) Strategically placed washcloths...2) That scrubby thingy you get in the hospital, the best invention ever, except the ketchup straw ;). No cradle cap for us!
3) That clean baby smell. Scratch and sniff here. While it lasts. We usually have spit up all over us within 30 minutes. Scratch and sniff here.

Patent Pending

September 1, 2009

Do you have extra straws laying around the house that you don't know what to do with? Perhaps extras from the two diet cherry cokes you have started getting from Sonic every morning? If this describes your situation, then does the Boss have the solution for you...
Introducing the Ketchup Straw, you know, like a soup spoon or a salad fork. Some foods are just so important they need a dedicated utensil. And you thought ketchup didn't need a utensil and was just a condiment. Silly. Ketchup makes up 30% of this kid's diet. Thank you school board for considering it a vegetable!

No, you say, you are not addicted to diet cherry coke? So much so that you purchase two route 44's (or tall boys as I will begin calling them henceforth) after you drop your kids off at school? One for now and one for later, so you don't have to pack the smallest kids back into car seats just to head back to Sonic two hours later, watching Baby Einstein on the car's DVD for the millionth time so the toddler won't cry whilst the baby cries because she hates the car seat? Or have to think up an excuse to haul them out somewhere just so you can stop by? Because Sonic is "on the way" to everywhere you go.

No?

Weird.

Hello, my name is Amy ...

and I am neurotic. If there is nothing to stress over then I will invent something to stress over. And when there is something legit to stress over, man, look out.

Family Pictures

not just my little family

Grandma Tina's family. Just a second, where did I put that paper bag I was breathing into? (give me a minute....)

Last night I was shopping for headbands and flowers for Aria at 11:00 pm, in the dark, trying to hide my shopping from Mark because I was ashamed. I already have a headband and flower for Aria, but thought I might like something else. So, I bought $20 worth of head bling and had it shipped to Grandma Tina's house. It probably won't even get there in time. Yes, I need help.

Anywho....this morning we practiced picture hair. And I took pictures. Drama asked me why I was taking pictures and I responded, "for reference, so I can study them while you are at school." Her look was priceless. I really should have taken a picture....sigh.

Straight or curly? She said, "Mom, my hair looks great no matter what you do to it." (That sounded like an accusation to me, but I may be paranoid.) She is, of course, right.Seriously. She could be bald with that face!Okay, Okay. I'll get help. Sorry baby, mommy will stop torturing you now.

Will it Go Away?

September 1, 2009

The shiner...in time for family pictures on Saturday?? Please say yes. In the mean time, I am trying to keep her away from the stairs... and place mats, the two don't mix well. Especially when said place mat is on your head and you are twirling. Sigh.
