Halloween 2013

We began the day with the annual Elementary Halloween Costume Parade. It is always fun to see what some kids come up with and their parents go along with. This was The Boss' first year participating in the parade and I think you can tell how very excited she was.

She found one of her sister's old jaguar costume and immediately decided that was what she wanted to be for Halloween. Awesome. One costume complete and $0 spent. 

Pooh Bear decided that she wanted to be a pioneer this year and wanted to wear the pioneer dress from when I went on trek. It's a little too big but nothing a few dozen safety pins can't fix. Costume #2 done and $0 spent. Now I am on a roll. This first picture is right at the beginning of the parade, she's a happy, hopeful pioneer here.

Her good friend broke her ankle in the first weeks of school playing soccer at recess and had to have surgery and pins put in to fix the damage. It has been very hard on PB. She keeps telling me how nice it will be when her friend can run and play again. So, here the pioneer is pushing a wheel chair instead of pulling a hand cart. The second photo was taken at the end of the parade, or her version of Marin's Cove, not so happy.

And then finally, it was time to go trick-or-treating for real. The Boss was certain that trick-or-treating would never come. 

Drama was not allowed to dress up for school this year (it's not allowed at the Junior High). But she wanted to go trick-or-treating with her friend who was dressing as a "capital person" from the Hunger Games. We did our best at "capital person" but since she hasn't seen the movie (it's PG13) and I have only seen it once, we just went for garish and over the top.

The Last Pre-school Halloween Party. Ever.

If possible, I may have become even more dramatic since I last blogged. I guess it's not the last pre-school Halloween party ever, ever. But for us, we will never have another, and now I have just made myself super sad. Sigh.

How about some adorable {as she called herself this am after makeup application} pictures of Bea to cheer us all up, hu?

  As you can see, she decided to be a ladybug this year.

Luckily, I bought this red coat on clearance a couple of years back. Who knew it would come in handy this year as a Halloween costume?

PS - You can look forward to a lot more fabulous posts, such as this one, for the next year-ish. Now that Grandma and Grandpa Van Horn are knee deep serving a mission, I have decided this is probably the best/easiest way to keep them updated on our families awesomeness and general cuteness. Their email server will probably thank me for not delivering 8000+ pictures to their inbox.

This morning The Boss, Bea, and I went to the school for the annual Halloween Parade through the school halls and classrooms. It takes a while for the parade to get started, so there is some waiting that can be pretty boring. Good thing Princesses and Super Heroes can make their own fun (or watch Garfield on mom's iphone) while they wait.

Then once the kids start by in their costumes it's supper awesome. 

Pooh Bear {aka Kyle Beckerman #5, Captain of RSL} and her/his class paraded by first.

Then Drama, the Hippie Chick, peace marched past. She's in 6th grade this year and it's her last parade. Sigh.

After the parade the babies and I came home and watched the Nightmare Before Christmas, because it is one of my favorite movies and oh so appropriate. Then I threatened to ban anyone who did not take a nap from trick-or-treating this evening. {so mean, I know}

Finally dad came home from work AND we ate dinner. Then it was time to hit the streets. but not before mom made them all pose for a picture.

And dad dressed up in all the left over pieces of each costume: PB's Beckerman wig that was "too heavy and itchy," The Boss's Spider Girl mask that wouldn't stay on her face to her satisfaction so we just drew on some spiderwebs, a princess tiara from the dress up bucket, and a peace button from Drama's costume {that she didn't even want to wear in the first place because she didn't believe that hippies wore buttons!}. And Buddy, who it has been determined, has dressed up as Mark or an Old Man depending on who you ask!

The Boss had a party at pre-school last Thursday. I guess Candy-corn witches don't like having their picture taken before school.

She was so excited to go trick-or-treating in Miss. Cathy's neighborhood! 

Bea had fun mostly because Miss. Cathy kept sneaking candy to her!

Buzzy Bee, did you know that bees have magical bee wands? Neither did I.

We carved pumpkins Saturday afternoon. Pooh Bear and Drama did all the work on their pumpkins themselves this year and they did fantastic. Dad did all most of the work on the other pumpkins with direction from the most helpful 2 and 3 year olds.

We dressed up Tuesday night for the annual ward Halloween party.

We dressed up Friday for the school Halloween parade/parties and for trick-or-treating at Dad's work.

We dressed up Saturday night for trick-or-treating in the cold and rain.

(I didn't actually take any pictures this night, I mean, how many times can I take pictures of these kids, really? Okay, I love to take pictures of these kids. I just got lazy. What can I say?) Enjoy these I took Tuesday night...

Jack-o-Lanterns 2010

Drama and Pooh Bear love to carve pumpkins. We started the Sunday before Halloween. It was the Sacrament Meeting Primary Program so Grandma and Grandpa Van Horn came down to watch the girls and spend the day. Dad was out of town but Grandpa Van Horn very bravely "volunteered" to help the girls.

and Pooh Bear designed her own kitty face.

Unfortunately they were not able to finish carving on Sunday. Hmm, wonder why?

So, I plopped them out in the garage hoping we could finish them sometime during the week. . . which never happened. So, dad had to come to the rescue. He finish carving Pooh Bear's kitty face and then rotated Drama's around and made a completely new face. All of this about 20 minutes before trick-or-treating Saturday night! (BTW wolf = too hard) I think they look pretty great...

Halloween Candy

Oh, Halloween candy, how I hate thee. You are my nemesis.

This is last years candy. I packed it all up and stuck it in the freezer about November 5th last year. I thought it was about time to "rotate" it through my food storage before the huge candy haul this year.

Trick-or-Treat!

Halloween has never been my favorite holiday, I'm a party pooper and never dress up, but I have to admit that it is a lot of fun with little kids. Drama was tinkerbell and Pooh Bear was a pirate. They had costume parades at school (one for Drama in the morning and one for Pooh Bear with the afternoon kindergarten) and parties gallor. Pooh Bear proudly told me that they would not be learning anything today because it was all fun and parties! Then we had trick-or-treating at Dad's work and in the neighborhood. Busy, busy, busy! They ended up with two entire pumpkins full of candy each! It was quite a haul.
